“Fuel the People: Black-Owned Restaurants Feeding Our Unhoused Neighbors”

“Dear PoPville,

Since the attack at the Capitol Building, 5 local Black-owned restaurants have been working tirelessly to provide meals for our unhoused neighbors throughout DC. In partnership with local grassroots mutual aid group @fueltheppl, Open Crumb, Taste of Jamaica, Heat da Spot Cafe, Chez Dior and Po Boy Jim have made over 1,100 meals for the community to support unhoused DC residents that have been impacted and/or displaced by the current state of emergency in DC.

This week, today through Wednesday, Fuel the People will be partnering again with these restaurants to provide another 1,000 meals and another 1,000 supply bags to the community throughout Anacostia, Columbia Heights, and NoMa. As many meal distributions and services that residents facing housing and food insecurity rely on for survival have been cancelled, we need to support each other now more than ever. To support Fuel the People’s efforts, you can donate (Venmo fuelthepeople-DC) and sign up to volunteer on their Instagram @fueltheppl or on their website, fuelthepeople.com. Please also consider supporting these Black businesses that have been supporting the community.”
