“Family loses home in Eastern Ave fire”

“Dear PoPville,

Reaching out for some assistance from the wider community in helping a family in my neighborhood who lost their home recently due to a house fire.

From the GoFundMe:

“On Monday night, January 4, a longtime Takoma DC family’s home was destroyed by fire. The house was home to three generations, with kids in the local DC Public Schools, and loving care provided by their grandmother. They lost all their personal belongings, and even gifts from Christmas. They are staying with relatives in the area until more resources are available.

While the kids’ schools and community partners work on emotional support for the family, District agencies help them identify benefits and housing, and neighbors contribute clothing and household items, cash is urgently needed for day to day expenses and initial costs to secure more stable housing.

I am their neighbor, posting this on behalf of other concerned neighbors, and in partnership with the Ida B Wells Middle School PTO.

To contribute clothing or household items, please contact us directly. Your cash donations here are greatly appreciated! Funds will be distributed to the older brother, Isaiah Lynch, currently providing housing for the family.

Update as of 1/12: As we watched the insurrection and siege on the Capitol last week, older brother Isaiah was deployed with the DC National Guard, and expects to be assigned to security duties over the next month. Through that work, he was exposed to COVID-19. The entire family is now in quarantine in his apartment nearby.

We continue to seek housing for them through the DC Department of Human Services. We increased the fundraising goal in hopes of getting them into housing more quickly, and provide some stability for several months. Three-bedroom apartments in this neighborhood are very hard to come by.”
