I have a bit of a mystery on my hands. A friend from work (who lives in Arizona) was gifted a photo album belonging to a family that clearly lived in DC (and it looks like the Columbia Heights area to me). I’d love to help her reunite these images with the family they belong to. The photos are really remarkable that I would hate for them to just get thrown away. I’m adding additional details from the current owner of the album and attaching some photos for reference.”

“My friends gifted it to me, when I left DC in 2002. I flip through it every 5 years of so, but just don’t know what to do with it. It’s someone’s family history, so I can’t just toss it.
I searched it for clues, and only found that the photos are from 1947-1971, taken in the DC area. Most are from 1972 and seem to be in Columbia Heights. At some point. I identified a liquor store and a park where they were taken. There are no names or inscriptions.Ideally, I’d like to reconnect the family with their photos, but that seems impossible. So next best thing would be an archives. There is Black history here, and DC local culture, and family history.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
