“Dear PoPville,
My pup seems to have torn her CCL, and has been limping on and off for the last 2 weeks. She is a 90 pound german shepherd mix – not overweight, but a big girl. The vet recommended we reduce her weight by a few pounds, and said surgery is the only option for treatment. I would love to hear from PoPville community if anyone else has had to deal with similar issues lately. I have a few questions:
1. Do you recommend any specific surgeons/ treatments centers for this type of treatment? Also, what was the cost and recovery period like? Did you get a specific type of CCL surgery?
2. Did any of you try PRP (platelet rich plasma) injection treatments for this issue? If so, how was that experience and was it effective? This seems to be a newer emerging treatment for these types of injuries. My dog is a sweetheart, but she also gets anxious during vet treatments, so I am also wondering how they would handle this treatment with a big nervous dog.”
