“Effective Immediately, spontaneous play and organized athletic activities involving high contact sports are prohibited”*

From DC Department of Parks and Recreation:

“In accordance with Mayor Muriel Bowser’s situational update provided on Monday, December 7, 2020, and in support of the District’s efforts to mitigate the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), DPR will be enforcing a series of adjustments and limitations on sports and recreation activities:

New Gathering Restrictions & Programs Update

All authorized, indoor activities are limited to 10 people or less.
All organized outdoor activities are limited to 25 people or less. (including all field permits)

Tech Lounges are now closed.

Group workouts, learn to swim programs, and exercise classes are suspended until further notice.

Permits for Outdoor Fields & Courts

Effective immediately, DPR will stop issuing permits for organized sports and team play on DPR fields.

High-Contact Sports

Effective Immediately, spontaneous play and organized athletic activities involving high contact sports are prohibited.

This includes: Basketball, Boxing, Football, Hockey, Lacrosse, Martial Arts, Rugby, Soccer, and Wrestling.

High School Sports & Competitions

DPR has now suspended high school-aged physical sports and organized athletic activities. (including practices, clinics, and competitions) This applies not only to high-contact sports, but other sports and physical activities as well.

Youth Sports

*Children and teens who are middle school-aged and younger may continue to participate in organized drills and clinics for high-contact sports, provided athletes are organized in groups of no more than 12 and the activities do not involve actual physical contact with one another.

DPR Facilities – What’s Open/Closed?

Residents may continue to use DPR fields for individual exercise or casual, non-league, non high-contact games and activities, provided they adhere to guidance relating to social distancing.

The following Outdoor Facilities are open with social distancing safeguards in place:

• Parks and Open Green Spaces
• Athletic Fields and Courts
• Dog Parks
• Playgrounds

The following Indoor Facilities are open. Reservations are required:

• Select Fitness Centers for Individual Workouts
• Select Indoor Pools for Lap Swimming
(Locker Rooms are now open for swimmers at Indoor Pools-special guidelines for locker room use have been posted at pool locations)

Options for Existing Permit Holders

Any organization holding an existing DPR permit for sports involving physical contact may only use the permit to conduct no-contact drills and workouts, for children younger than high school or for adults.
