Two Armed Robberies in Hill East. Road Rage Shot Fired in Navy Yard. Early Morning Shots Fired in Brightwood

From MPD:

“There were two Robbery incidents that occurred in close proximity this evening [Sunday, Nov. 22]. The first incident was at 14th & East Capitol St. SE at about 5:42 PM. The victim was unloading a bicycle from the back of his car when he looked up and observed two juvenile suspects sitting the car’s front seats rummaging about. When he confronted them they exited the vehicle and one of them pointed a handgun at him and demanded his wallet.

The victim threw his wallet which the suspects retrieved. They then entered another car operated by another juvenile and fled.

The second incident was at 17th & East Capitol St. SE at about 5:49 PM. The victims, three related adults with several small children, had just parked and were getting out of their passenger van. Three juvenile suspects approached them and one of them pointed a handgun and demanded their property. One of the adult victims turned over her purse. When the other adult female who was still in the van was reluctant to turn over her purse, one of the suspects took ahold of one of the children who is four years old.

The adult victim in the van then quickly handed the suspect her purse as she grabbed the child back from him. The three suspects then fled back into the alley. There were no physical injuries to the child or any of the victims.

The suspects in both cases were described as thin black males, 13 to 15 years of age, wearing jeans and dark hoodies, with one taller than than other two. The First District’s detectives’ office is investigating the above matters.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
