“The Fourth District is currently investigating an Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm that occurred on Saturday, November 14, 2020, at approximately 8:56pm in the 300 block of Van Buren St. NW.

Property damage was reported.”

Also disturbing:

“This afternoon at approximately 3:15 PM, four juvenile suspects approached a residence in the 900 block of 11th St. NE in an effort to fight with another juvenile inside. When their target would not come out, the four suspects threw bricks through several of the residence’s windows, breaking them. When a neighbor confronted them, they brandished a knife and when he fled into his house they also broke several of his windows and entered his residence. The neighbor retreated to a locked room until the juvenile suspects left. They also smashed several car windows in the block. No one was injured in this incident. Responding officers stopped all four suspects and after investigation placed the three female and one male respondent under arrest for Burglary in the First Degree and Destruction of Property.”

And regarding the big police presence reported by some in SW:

“This evening at approximately 7:40 PM there was an incident inside a residence in the 1000 block of 4th St. SW that required a significant police response and brief road closure. The matter is still under investigation. The general public is not and was at no time in danger related to this incident. Further updates will be forthcoming as the investigation proceeds.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
