“Baker’s Daughter Now Open in Ivy City”

From a press release:

“Today, chef Matt Baker announces the opening of Baker’s Daughter, his all-day storefront offering prepared foods, coffee, gourmet grocery items, and gifts. Baker’s Daughter is located at 1402 Okie St. NE in Washington, D.C.’s Ivy City neighborhood, right across from Gravitas, the chef’s Michelin-starred fine dining restaurant. Though primarily focused on carryout and delivery, the cozy shop also offers a handful of well-spaced seats and free Wi-Fi to café guests.

“I’ve always wanted to open a casual European café,” Baker said, “but a carryout kitchen offering approachable, easy, high-quality meals and grocery items was never part of the vision. But the hospitality landscape has been entirely transformed, and not only is this something people need right now, it’s an opportunity to future-proof my staff against any industry disruptions to come.”

The kitchen at Baker’s Daughter operates independently from Gravitas, with its own menu of à la carte dishes sold in-store and through a third-party delivery service. There are also four-course carryout meals available for advance order online. An example Baker’s Daughter meal, available for $45 per person, might feature herb baked focaccia, summer peach and burrata salad, seared scallops with Spanish chorizo, and an entrée of beef bourguignon with bacon lardons, pommes puree, and crispy Shallots. À la carte café offerings vary seasonally, with the current menu including classic jambon beurre sandwiches, braised pork posole, stuffed piquillo peppers and braised beef short ribs with whipped polenta.

The café serves local coffee and espresso drinks, fresh-pressed juices, a selection of house made pastries, grab-and-go breakfast items, sandwiches, salads, and other simply prepared meals. Gourmet grocery and refrigerated items include artisan cheeses, salt, specialty oil and vinegars, chips and crackers, granola, cookies, brownies, focaccia and baguettes, breakfast and granola bars, spiced nuts, dried pasta, condiments and sauces.

Baker’s Daughter features a curated selection of food- and wine-focused lifestyle items, including those for al fresco dining, family date nights, and gifts. Culinary holiday offerings include family-style feasts for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Mother’s Day. Catering, office deliveries, and party platters are always available.

Later in the month, the market will be adding chef-curated CSA boxes to their offerings. Each week, chef Matt Baker and his team will work with the same trusted local farmers that supply Gravitas to put together one-of-a-kind CSA boxes. Packaged with a handful of house-made sauces, condiments, pickles and breads, each CSA box will include a thoughtful recipe utilizing that week’s set of ingredients and products. Boxes will be $65 each and available for pick-up every Thursday.”

Finding a gift for moms can be difficult. Google “Mother’s Day gifts,” and you’ll scroll through endless lists of beauty products, candles and fuzzy robes. Sure, those are sweet, but sometimes it’s fun to surprise loved ones with something a little more, well, practical!

Here’s one idea: Give her a gift certificate for a home cleaning from Well-Paid Maids. It’s the perfect “thank you,” “I love you” or “you’ve got this” for any mom. She can schedule the home cleaning at her convenience and breathe easy knowing she has one less thing to do.

Our cleaners will take care of everything, including vacuuming and mopping as well as cleaning and dusting countertops, tables, mirrors, appliances and more. Sinks, toilets, showers and appliance exteriors also get a good scrub.
