“Question on DC’s Free COVID-19 Antibody Tests”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m scheduled for a COVID-19 antibody test and I am hoping one of your readers might be able to point me to the exact version/brand of test DC uses.

Obviously these tests are all new and reliability varies, as the FDA has detailed here.

And just to preempt some of the types of comments I’ve seen on previous posts about antibody testing: no, folks, I am not getting the test in order to declare myself immune or otherwise to excuse myself from taking precautions like social distancing, wearing my mask, washing my hands, sticking to only essential errands. That would be nuts. And selfish.

I’m getting the test because I’m seven months pregnant and I want to know if my baby was potentially exposed. And, yes, I know the data about pregnancy and COVID-19 is new, as well. Hope someone knows which version of the test DC is using.

Scheduling was surprisingly easy. I read thru DC’s (sorta-user-friendly) testing website and called 1-855-363-0333 to make an appointment.

I called yesterday and the appointment is for tomorrow morning. Not bad.

The representative told me her “best guess” for results turnaround was 3-5 business days. She says results will be mailed but I should call if I don’t receive anything.

DC has three free antibody testing locations, including one near Petworth:

Hillcrest Recreation Center
3100 Denver Street, SE
Monday through Friday, 9 am – 3 pm
1-855-363-0333.

Navy YardCanal Park,
200 L Street, SE
Monday through Friday, 9 am – 3 pm
1-855-363-0333

Takoma Recreation Center
300 Van Buren Street, NW
Monday through Friday, 9 am – 3 pm
1-855-363-0333″

Finding a gift for moms can be difficult. Google “Mother’s Day gifts,” and you’ll scroll through endless lists of beauty products, candles and fuzzy robes. Sure, those are sweet, but sometimes it’s fun to surprise loved ones with something a little more, well, practical!

Here’s one idea: Give her a gift certificate for a home cleaning from Well-Paid Maids. It’s the perfect “thank you,” “I love you” or “you’ve got this” for any mom. She can schedule the home cleaning at her convenience and breathe easy knowing she has one less thing to do.

Our cleaners will take care of everything, including vacuuming and mopping as well as cleaning and dusting countertops, tables, mirrors, appliances and more. Sinks, toilets, showers and appliance exteriors also get a good scrub.
