“anyone know of a place to “get out of the city” feel under 1 hour of driving?”

Thanks to Holden for asking us @PoPville on Twitter, “anyone know of a place to “get out of the city” feel under 1 hour of driving? Might I add: less rigorous than Shenandoah hiking, getting hip surgery in two weeks” Here are the initial responses (please add yours to the comments):

“The anacostia river trail has spots that feel out of the city”

“Check to see if Sugarloaf Mountain is open. Not far at all”

“Check out Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens. They are an oasis within DC.”

“I would say front royal. Smidge more than an hour but you have hiking and river tubing”

“If you like to drink, I suggest Purcellville, VA. They’ve got wonderful breweries, distilleries and wineries. Also some nice low-commitment hiking trails.”

“Annapolis yo”

“Poolesville, MD”

“Underground Railroad trails in Sandy Spring … great walk, educational”

“Lake Needwood. It’s in Montgomery County.”

“Great falls?”

“Calvert cliffs. Its a long but flat walk.”

“Kent Island. There’s a nature park, hiking trails and a beach!”

“Harpers Ferry, Antietam area,Catoctin Mt Park, Cunningham Falls st Park”

“Bull Run for a stroll in the woods.
Paradise Winery for outdoor chilling.
Sugarloaf for hiking.
Watermelon Park for river tubing.”

“To me, Rock Creek Park feels farther out of town than most anything within a couple of hours drive. A beach chair, a cooler and maybe a little bbq at the edge of the water under the trees.”

“American Chestnut Land Trust in Calvert Co. Jug Bat Natural Area in Ann Arundel. Patuxent River Park and Merkle Sanctuary Prince Georges.”

“@WheatlandSpring Fantastic beer, beautiful grounds, excellent health and safety measures”

“Occoquan Va”

“@brookevillebeer”

“Calvert Cliffs State Park has beautiful trails-that are fairly even-thru dense woods. 1.8 mile trek to the beach. Go early. Follow @MDStateParks for park density updates l.
Patuxent Research Refuge is closer, flatter, and used to run a trolly.”

“wife and I went to whiffletree farm out in Warrenton to escape lockdown for a bit – almost exactly an hour drive and it was fantastic. great fresh local food.”

“Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary”

“If beer on the schedule, I’d suggest the @Manorhillbrew farm.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
