“Free produce distribution at Common Good City Farm every Wednesday 4pm-6pm”

300 V Street, NW

“Dear PoPville,

I’m writing in the hopes you can share about the free produce distribution that Common Good City Farm is doing every Wednesday from 4pm-6pm at their farm in LeDroit Park (300 V St NW). I’m a volunteer there and want to make sure the city knows about this effort- access to healthy food is so important, especially if you’re out protesting! The farm is distributing pre-packaged boxes (for food safety/Covid reasons) of fresh, organic produce from farms around the DMV area, completely free. Last week, boxes included broccoli, salad greens, sweet potatoes, rhubarb, and more. This will change weekly, but it’s always a great selection!

The farm has done incredible work for the community, especially during Covid, and has purchased this produce from organic for-profit farms and is distributing it at no cost to make sure farms turn a profit and the community has access to healthy food. They are a registered non-profit and take donations on their website if you would like to support their work, but the produce is free without any donation required, just walk up! To anyone in the area who would like free produce, please come say hi and take home some amazing organic produce!”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
