“Has anyone else been able to get their wedding license through the online application process during the quarantine?”

“Dear PoPville,

My fiance and I had to postpone our October wedding to ensure our immunocompromised friends and families wouldn’t be put at risk, and we rescheduled for Memorial Day weekend of next year. We still want to get married, so we decided to take advantage of DC’s online applications for marriage licenses, so we can get married on May 30th, so that our wedding date next year will be our one-year anniversary.

Unfortunately, we submitted our application a month ago and still haven’t heard anything from the DC Marriage Bureau. We tried calling the number listed on their site, and a woman answered, “HELLO?!” and seemed genuinely surprised and very unhappy that we were calling. She dismissively told my fiance to check his spam folder (obviously we already had), said nothing else could be done by her or anyone else to check in on our application, and hung up.

We have just two weeks left to figure this out… would love to hear if anyone else been able to get their license through the online application process during the quarantine?

We reached out to our Councilperson for help, who reached out to Rep. Holmes-Norton, who hasn’t responded. Any other suggestions would be really appreciated! We’ve already had a tough year of loss and challenges (recognizing that we’re not the only ones), and it’d be great to have at least one thing go right – or, rather, for DC’s bureaucracy to do one thing right.”

This rental is located at 3345 18th near Monroe. The Craigslist ad says:

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
