“Arrest Made in a Homicide and Arson Offenses in the First and Fifth Districts”

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch along with members of the DC Fire and ATF/DC Arson and Explosives Task Force, announce an arrest has been made in a homicide that occurred on Wednesday, May 13, 2020, in the 900 block of H Street, Northeast.

At approximately 1:08 am, members of the First District and members of DC Fire and EMS responded to the listed location for the report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, members located an adult male victim suffering from life-threatening thermal injuries. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. An investigation into the cause of the fire revealed it was intentionally set. On Friday, May 15, 2020, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The decedent has been identified as 62 year-old Darryl Finney, of no fixed address.

On Tuesday, May 19, 2020, 25 year-old D’Aundrey Scott, of Southeast, DC, was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder.

The defendant in this case was additionally charged with the following offenses as part of the investigation:

First District:

Assault with Intent to Kill (Arson): At approximately 12:22 am, the suspect approached the victim in the 1300 block of H Street, Northeast. The suspect ignited a cloth and threw it on the victim. The suspect then fled the scene. No injuries were reported. CCN: 20-071-246

Destruction of Property: At approximately 1:05 am, DC Fire and EMS and officers from the First District responded to the 1300 block of Florida Avenue, Northeast, for the report of an automobile fire. Members of DC Fire and EMS extinguished the fire. There were no reported injuries. An investigation into the cause of the fire revealed it was intentionally set. CCN: 20-071-270

Fifth District:

Arson: At approximately 1:25 am, the suspect approached an unoccupied residence in the 1400 block of Morse Street, Northeast. The suspect poured a flammable liquid on the outside of the residence and ignited it. The suspect then fled the scene. CCN: 20-071-544

Arson: At approximately 1:35 am, members of DC Fire and EMS and members of the Fifth District responded to the 1400 block of Morse Street, Northeast, for the report of a structure fire. Members of DC Fire and EMS extinguished the fire. There were no reported injuries. An investigation into the cause of the fire revealed it was intentionally set. CCN: 20-071-271​”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
