Can’t say I’ve seen an alert like this before. From Alert DC:

“The National Weather Service (NWS) has forecasted below average temperatures for the District of Columbia, starting Friday night, May 8th through Sunday, May 10th.

– Cold temperatures as low as the mid to upper 30s are possible.

– Winds gusting up to 30 mph could be likely.

– Cold conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Precautionary/Preparedness Actions: Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.”
