“I would like to hear from others on how they are supporting their elderly parents/relatives?”

Ed. Note: From this morning’s poll only 2.3% of respondents are staying with extended family members.

“Dear PoPville,

When the current crisis started, I moved my mom, who’s in her 70s, out of her HiRISE condo in Virginia and in to my DC home temporarily. Mom likes her independence and her own space, so it’s been an adjustment having her live here. However, by now we have worked out the day to day routines. Most importantly, she is safe and comfortable, and does not have to risk exposure from other building residents or from heading out for groceries / errands during this pandemic.

I have had to go out a number of times to the grocery and pharmacy, because delivery options were unavailable, but we are fine for now. Although grocery stores have set up senior hours, so far there is no prioritization for delivery services for elderly customers or for first responders – for someone like mom, who relies on public transportation, senior shopping hours are not a solution. We are hopeful that when some level of normalcy resumes, she could move back into her place – but that could be months away.

I have several friends (outside of DC), who have done the same with their elderly parents. I would like to hear from others in the PoPville community, on how they are supporting their elderly parents / relatives, and if they have any suggestions or ideas to make this experience smoother.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
