Like many people, I live in a house in Petworth which was built over 100 years ago. I’ve always been curious about who has inhabited the house, starting with the first tenants, but I have no idea where I could look up this information. Can we ask your very awesome and very good looking audience to see if anyone knows how/where to start digging for this type of information? I am aware that if there is a place to go ask for this information, they may receive a flood of requests during the Covid shutdown. My apologies.”

I’ve run into a situation this week and I’m wondering if others are also dealing with the same thing. With the quarantine I’ve had a lot of extra time lately so naturally I’ve been doing some spring cleaning to get rid of items and clean up my front garden. I’ve filled up both my recycling & garbage bins to brim.
In addition to my waste bins being full, I have probably 6 very large garbage bags full of items that need to be disposed. Today during trash collection I noticed they did not empty my garbage bin into the truck. There was some dirt / dead plants on top of the garbage bags in there but I verified that all the material was allowed according to the DC Department of Public Works website. I would take all my garbage bags to the dump myself but it is closed indefinitely. I also would rather not store all these bags outside / in the alley rats are likely to tear wholes in the bags. Wondering if anyone has advice on the best way to deal with all this trash since the dump won’t likely to be open until the end of the month?”

“I wanted to share a 311 hero, rather than horror story. It’s nothing profound, but we’re so used to complaining about things not going well with the city, I wanted to give credit where credit was due.
Yesterday, after a rat died in our alley, I used 311’s online system to alert pest control. Today, less than 24 hours later, two inspectors came out to handle the situation. They were lovely, super helpful and kept a safe distance while providing us with some rat repelling tips. It’s nice when things work well, people are kind to one another and there truly is the spirit of we’re all in this together. I didn’t get their names (I should have), but who knew talking about annoying rodents could be such a bright spot. “

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
