“There’s a bike lane in there somewhere…”

“Dear PoPville,

More 14th street construction drama…

After almost a year of construction and untold millions, DDOT has effectively turned the bike lanes next to the curb bulb outs on 14th St NW into long term street parking. Here’s Saturday afternoon with three vehicles parked in the lane with engines off and no drivers inside (see above). Obviously any enforcement is out of the question.

I actually love the curb bulb outs and would some day like to be able to bike down this corridor again. It seems like protecting the 75 ft or so along the bulb outs with plastic bollards would be an easy fix, but it is DC so we’ll probably have to wait until 2023 before they get around to it.”
