Mopeds Make The Cut for Pilot Phase Part Two through September 30, 2020

From DDOT:

“Today, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced a continuation of its demonstration pilot for shared motor-driven cycles, also known as mopeds, and released new draft terms and conditions that will govern the second phase of the pilot.

Shared motor-driven cycle operators with a 2019 Public Right-of-Way Occupancy Permit (PROW OP) are permitted to continue operations through Saturday, February 29, 2020 under the current permits. The second phase of the motor driven cycle pilot, which will be governed by revised terms and conditions, will begin on March 1, 2020 and continue through September 30, 2020.

Under the new draft terms and conditions:

companies can operate up to 600 vehicles in the District;
additional safety and equity requirements are established for the pilot’s second phase;
riders cannot park on roads with rush hour restrictions or in bus lanes; and
moped companies must distribute their vehicles throughout the entire District, in all eight wards, at all times.

These new requirements are in addition to existing District law requiring moped riders to wear helmets, possess a valid driver’s license, and avoid riding on sidewalks.

The draft terms and conditions are available here and will be available for public comment for 10 business days, through January 29, 2020. Residents are required to submit their comments in writing by email to [email protected] or by mail to 55 M Street SE Washington, DC 20003. DDOT will post the final terms and conditions on the DDOT website (ddot.dc.gov) after all public comments are reviewed.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
