9pm Shooting at 6th and Florida/M Street, NE – One Victim Found near 8th and H Street, NE

UPDATE: From MPD:

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Monday, December 30, 2019, in the 600 block of M Street, Northeast.

At approximately 9:15 pm, members of the Fifth District responded to the area for the sounds of gunshots. Officers located an adult male at 8th and H Street, Northeast. The male was unconscious and unresponsive, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead.

The decedent has been identified as 21 year-old Jibri West, of Northeast, DC.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by sending a text message to 50411.”

“Fifth District patrol officers and detectives from the Violent Crimes Branch are currently investigating a shooting that occurred around 9:00 PM in the Fifth District along Florida Avenue NE. One of the shooting victims was found near 8th St NE and H St NE where First District officers rendered aid prior to transportation to a hospital.

As a result of the shooting in the Fifth District, there will be an extended road closure around 8th St NE and H St NE for the investigation. Motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians are asked to avoid the area. More information on the shooting will be released later by the Public Information Office. Any witnesses to the shooting should contact MPD at 202-727-9099 or by sending an anonymous text to 50-411.
