“Please raise awareness of what happened in a supposedly ‘safe’ area during 3 PM on a Saturday”

“Dear PoPville,

On Saturday, November 2nd around 3 PM, my partner was walking along Vermont Avenue NW between Q and R Street’s in Logan Circle. He was returning from Whole Foods with his backpack walking in an area considered safe right off Logan Circle. He was talking on his phone wearing Air Pods, the phone was not visible. One kid (high school aged) came up to him, asked for money which he did not give. He was then surrounded by a number of other kids and chased into the middle of the street where they started kicking him in the face and head.

Thankfully a car was coming and they ran away after stealing his iPhone. The police were called, and while he was roughed up after a visit to the hospital he had a CT scan and it seems like the only lasting damage is psychological.

A nearby observer from the church came out and said he thought there were as many as 10 kids, kicking and pushing him on the ground.

DC police responded quickly, and tried to apprehend the suspects but the kids took off.

This incident is similar to what happened this summer near the Washington Hilton and on U Street. Are these attacks happening more often?”
