From a press release:
“Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG), founded by restaurateur and industry leader Danny Meyer whose portfolio features some of New York’s most beloved restaurants, bars, and cafes, has announced Anchovy Social, the accompanying rooftop bar set to open atop the forthcoming Thompson Washington D.C. hotel at The Yards. The bar will open this winter in tandem with Roman-style seafood restaurant Maialino Mare, USHG’s first foray into fine dining outside of New York.
In line with Maialino Mare’s Italian concept, Anchovy Social’s beverage menu will highlight classic cocktails such as Aperol Spritz, with innovative and seasonal takes on favorites such as the Seadog (tequila, grapefruit soda, Old Bay salt) and the Juice Box (vodka, cranberry shrub, Vermouth di Torino, rosemary). Additionally, large format cocktails that serve up to four will be offered seasonally, while regional beers will be available bottled and on tap.
Snacks and bites are the focus on the food menu, which will showcase the best of local seafood and fun twists on Italian antipasti. Guests can choose from Potato Chips Cacio Pepe to dips and tins of Smoked Trout and Anchovy and Stracchino, to name a few. Seafood Towers, shareable plates like Clams Casino, heartier plates and sliders such as the Porchetta Melt, satisfy all appetites.
“You don’t need to love anchovies to love Anchovy Social.” said Danny Meyer, Founder and CEO of Union Square Hospitality Group. “It’s our first destination DC bar with striking waterfront views, classic cocktails, and satisfying bites of food. We’re thrilled to introduce Anchovy Social to a city that enjoys la dolce vita as much as we do.”
The8,000squarefootrooftopbar,featuring sliding floor to ceiling windows, sits at op the 12th floor of the hotel and offers unprecedented 360-degree views of the city and waterfront. The bar’s indoor/outdoor space will have live music and DJ sets throughout the week making it a true year-round destination.
The Thompson Washington D.C. will be located at the corner of Tingey and Third Streets SE, with Anchovy Social open seven days a week: M-Thurs – 4PM-12PM; Fri- 4PM-1AM; Saturday 11AM – 1AM; Sunday 11-10PM.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
