“Celebrate the 2019 World Lemur Festival at Solly’s this Wednesday, October 23!”

11th and U Street, NW

From an email:

“Join fans of lemurs and conservation upstairs at Solly’s on U Street to benefit conservation efforts by the Duke Lemur Center in northeast Madagascar. Enjoy trivia (with one round dedicated to lemur facts!) and meet and mingle with fellow conservationists.

Solly’s will be donating 10% of upstairs bar sales to lemur conservation! And, a silent auction will benefit the Duke Lemur Center. Auction items up for grab include a lemur costume, lemur stuffed animals, home decor from Madagascar, and even a painting by a black and white ruffed lemur who lives at the Duke Lemur Center!

The World Lemur Festival is held each year at the end of October, with events around the world and in villages around Madagascar. During the festival, we celebrate lemurs and raise awareness about the need for their conservation.

Lemurs are among the most adorable primates on earth, but they are also very endangered. Over 90% of lemur species are endangered, with some species having less than 100 left in the world! But, all hope is not lost. Over 50 organizations from the Lemur Conservation Network are working in Madagascar with the Malagasy people to protect lemur habitat and save these species from extinction. We are making progress every day, but there is a lot of work to do. Join us to help save lemurs!

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
