“heard anything about the assaults in Rock Creek Park?”

“Dear PoPville,

Wondering if you’ve heard anything about the assaults in Rock Creek rather flippantly described in Jack’s newsletter? I don’t see information anywhere. Thanks!”

Another reader reported:

“I wanted to send this in so people who run in Rock Creek Park, specifically the Piney Branch extension behind Bancroft Elementary School stay safe.

The initial post from Nextdoor:

“A neighbor reported hearing about two assaults on women by the same individual last week on the Piney Branch trail, and separate incidents of a woman last night and a woman this morning feeling threatened by a man matching the same description.

The description is: “male, tall (5’10”-6′ range), thin, light brown skin, sometimes wearing backpack and/or hat”.

I’ve contacted MPD and Eleanor Holmes Norton’s office to find out more from the US Park Police. I don’t have any more detail at this time. It seems prudent to let everyone know about these reports. Please be alert and consider walking with a friend when enjoying the Piney Branch trail.

The last post was from 9/14 and states that the man was spotted behind Bancroft. I’ve attached a flyer that is being distributed near the park.”
