Support

“Our mission is to support, empower, and promote women of all ages in music.”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m a local musician and wanted to tell you about my DC-baed 501c3 nonprofit for female musicians, ProjectHERA. Our mission is to support, empower, and promote women of all ages in music. We are hosting our 3rd annual HERA Music Festival on Sunday, September 22, at City Winery DC from 12-9pm. This is an all-ages, family friendly event highlighting female musicians with performances by full bands, acoustic artists and DJs!

It’s shaping up to be a really exciting day, with 3 stages; a main, acoustic, and DJ lounge, over 30 local acts, and an amazing nationally known headliner, Jill Sobule! This is an all-ages festival and anyone 18 and under is free. See our festival flyer (above) for the full line-up (we have performers as young as 7 this year.)

We have some awesome local vendors and sponsors including Chuck Levins, Music on the Hill, Femme Fatale, Compass Realty, and School of Rock. We’d love some help getting the word out, as this is a community-enriching, strengthening-the-arts event, and would love you to partner with us in continuing to build the DC music scene.

We’re a passionate group of women trying to bring together more females in the DC music community and encourages the future generation of young girls.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
