Basebowl “full-service ramen and fresh noodle restaurant” and HipCityVeg also coming to Navy Yard near Nats Park

“JBG SMITH Properties (NYSE: JBGS), a leading owner and developer of high-quality, mixed-use properties in the Washington, DC market, today announced the commencement of leasing for West Half, its 388,174-square foot mixed-use development project in DC’s Ballpark District. West Half comprises 465 residences ranging from studio to three-bedroom apartment residences that vary in size from 596 square feet to 2,021 square feet. JBG SMITH also announced that new eateries Basebowl and HipCityVeg have signed leases and will join West Half’s collection of retailers.

Designed by renowned New York-based ODA Architecture, West Half features an iconic multi-dimensional façade, modern interiors and ultramodern amenities. West Half residents will be connected to all the features and amenities in the Ballpark District, including Nationals Park, the Navy Yard – Ballpark Metro, the Capital Riverfront, the Yards, and the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail. West Half’s light-filled living spaces have sweeping views of Nationals Park; wide-plank flooring; chef-caliber kitchens with stainless steel appliances, Caesar stone countertops and high-end fixtures; and spa-inspired baths with stone countertops. West Half also contains two levels of retail space. New to the retail mix is Basebowl, a full-service ramen and fresh noodle restaurant. Named as a nod to the nearby baseball stadium, Basebowl will occupy 2,393 square feet and serve homemade Chinese and Taiwanese noodles, soup bowls, homemade dumplings with traditional bone broths for lunch, dinner and late night. HipCityVeg, a vegan, plant-based, fast-casual restaurant, will open its third Washington, D.C. location and occupy 1,474 square feet. HipCityVeg features burgers, “chick’n” sandwiches and nuggets, sweet potato fries and shakes that are all 100 percent plant based. Basebowl and HipCityVeg join West Half’s previously announced retail lineup: Union Kitchen Grocery, Compass Coffee, Cold Stone Creamery, Atlas Brew Works, and Gatsby, a contemporary American full-service bistro that also operates an all-day gourmet bakery in partnership with New York bakery Mah-Ze-Dahr.

The retail mix at West Half is being curated to complement the existing retail at JBG SMITH’s adjacent 1221 Van. Home to 291 apartments and two floors of retail, 1221 Van houses Mexican restaurant Mission Dos, Walter’s Sports Bar, District Dogs, Boombox Fitboxing and Mimosa Salon.
