“Dear PoPville,
Ever since reading about pawpaws last year on PoPville, I have tried but failed to locate a source for buying them. Any chance you could ask your readers for suggestions? I think they are or are about to be in season.”
You are in luck!! Casey Trees and DPR are hosting Washington DC’s First Annual Pawpaw Party:
You’re Invited to…
Washington DC’s Pawpaw Party!
Join DC Dept. of Parks and Recreation in celebrating North America’s largest indigenous fruit at Oxon Run Park on Saturday, September 14th!
Never heard of a pawpaw? Don’t miss your chance to learn about the history of this special fruit and try some pawpaws for yourself. They are only ripe for a brief window, so don’t wait until next year!
There will be fun for the whole family, including:
Pawpaw taste testing and dishes
Pawpaw tree planting
Live music
Tree tours with your Arborist
Trash clean-up
Family games
Feeling inspired and passionate about the DC urban forest? DPR will also be hosting a Green Hands Program Open House. This is an opportunity for neighbors to sign up to learn more about land stewardship through urban agriculture and urban forestry. Come by the Mother Peace Garden during the Pawpaw Party to learn more!
We hope to see you there!”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
