Got reports last night of ATVs/Dirt Bikes (up to 100) riding from H Street, NE to Georgia Ave, to 14th Street to Logan Circle to Dupont to the monuments to Crystal City. Unfortunately one reader reports a man was injured when struck by one rider of a “Bright blue dirt bike” badly enough to be taken into an ambulance:

“It was at 18th and Mass NW. The man was an older black man, probably in his 60s. The biker was on wrong side of road when he hit the man. The biker was in blue but I didn’t see his face. He stopped briefly to look behind him but then kept going.

A crowd of bystanders was with the man until EMS came. He had lost consciousness and huge bump on his head.

One of the worst parts was 911 had us on hold 2-3 minutes.”

Alex reported:

“I wanted to share these photos I took yesterday at the Washington monument. There were about 100+ dirt bikes and quads riding around across the mall and lawn of the monument. They were circling families and spinning dirt and rocks to hit them with. Children were crying everywhere. They were blocking sidewalks and traffic.

In the photo, a bike rider hit a lady’s car and rode away. As for the dirt bike on the pole, I’m not sure how it ended up getting left behind.

About 7 minutes later, there were a total of 4 police officers to handle the situation. Very sad to see visitors to the district being harassed by them.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
