Just wanted to alert the community to something I’ve noticed the past few months. I walk to the Shaw metro each morning and have noticed a growing amount of groups of bikes locked to posts along the way. Mostly at the intersection of Rhode Island Ave and 8th St NW, on both sides of Rhode Island. The bikes are parked at the back of the Shaw library and in front of an Airbnb (Airbnb has it’s own yard and storage areas, so unlikely they’re for their guests).
Started off with a pair locked behind the library and another pair at a nearby sign post, but has grown to multiple bikes at multiple posts. Seems like there’s a new addition to the clusters every few days. There are some fully geared bikes as well as random wheels, bikes with one wheel, and frames. A brand new bright green Diamondback was added last night.
Haven’t seen them moved or used. Seems like once a bike is added to the cluster it stays there, collecting dust. Mostly single family homes with yards around or buildings with dedicated bike racks.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
