Brazilian American Cultural Center Grand Opening in Park View August 24th

3001 Sherman Ave NW, at the corner of Columbia

Thanks to Amanda for sending an update on the former Stop & Go market space: “They are steadily renovating and I have seen them holding capoeira classes a few times as I walked past. A new banner just went up that says something like Brazilian American Cultural Center. It says grand opening August 24th. Samba, Portuguese, Capoeira, cooking, film…looks interesting!”

Their website says:

“The Brazilian–American Cultural Center* opened in June 2019 as the headquarters of Capoeira Barro Vermelho USA. It is the new home of Brazilian art and culture in the District of Columbia and provides the community with a venue to celebrate the ties that bind the US and Brazil through the discovery of various arts and cultures of Brazil. At BACC, you will be able to immerse yourself in the world of capoeira, the various forms of Brazilian dance, and learn Portuguese, the language of Brazil. We will also screen Brazilian films, have culinary classes, art exhibits featuring local and international artists, and provide workshops to train professionals in the arts of Brazil. We welcome community input as we develop the schedule for our inaugural year. Please email [email protected] for more information or suggestions.

Tentative schedule.

Tentative grand opening: August 24, 2019

Classes on the schedule starting in September:

Brazilian Portuguese: Wednesdays, 7 pm-8:30 pm

Arrive as early at 6:30 for bate=papo (chat) and Brazilian snacks and refreshments.

Samba: Saturdays, 1 pm – 2pm”

We’re about a month out from summer. That means you’ve still got time for spring cleaning!

Lexi Grant, an operations manager at Well-Paid Maids, shared her go-to spring cleaning tips with WTOP News. Step one? Declutter. Get rid of items you don’t use, find space for items that need a home and organize those areas.

Then, it’s time to dust. Lexi starts with high-touch surface areas (think: refrigerator, dishwasher, counters, microwave). One area she sees often neglected is the bedroom — and it makes sense. Heavy furniture is difficult to move around, but it’s important to really get in there so dust doesn’t affect your sleep.
