From a press release:
“This summer, Amparo owner and chef Christian Irabién is teaming up with Cotton & Reed (1330 5th Street NE) for Pepino, a new pop-up experience showcasing ceviche-centered fare from Saturday, July 20 through Sunday, August 18.
Pepino will offer guests a preview of Irabién’s forthcoming Amparo, slated to open this fall in leading national retail real estate owner, operator and developer EDENS’ highly anticipated La Cosecha Latin market in the Union Market District. The limited-run pop-up menu will feature half a dozen exclusive dishes ranging in price from $7 to $16.
Standout offerings include the “Pepino, Sal y Mar” a Hawaiian sunfish dish with aguachile, cucumber, mint, serrano, cilantro and tostadas, and the “Ceviche De Camaron” made with shrimp, citrus, salsa Mexicana, radishes, tostada atop a saltine cracker. The special menu will also include a handcrafted Cotton & Reed slushie, the “Prickled Pink,” consisting of prickly pear, Cotton & Reed’s White Rum and Ilegal Mezcal and lime, for $12.
“Because this is a fish-based menu, each dish will offer a nice taste of refreshing summer fare to savor during these warm-weather months,” says Irabién. “I look forward to giving Washingtonians a fresh, fun sneak peek at Amparo before La Cosecha debuts.”
“Our award-winning bar and tasting room serve only rum cocktails, so partnering with Amparo for this pop-up felt like a natural fit and next step to add a new dimension to our distillery experience,” say Cotton & Reed founders Reed Walker and Jordan Cotton.
Pepino will be open on Thursdays and Fridays from 4 to 10pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from Noon to 8pm.“

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
