“In celebration of Wimbledon, the popular ping pong social club, SPIN, will host a series of upcoming events at its Downtown DC studio. Coming to a ping pong court near you is SPINBLEDON; During the week of July 8th-12th, SPIN locations throughout the country will host a series of events allowing players and spectators to experience the popular tennis championship like never before. The DC SPIN location is excited to debut an Astroturf installation at the studio’s center court – much like the iconic grass fields of Wimbledon – in their underground Press Building location, plus offer specialty drinks reminiscent of popular sips from across the pond. Highlights of the weeks’ events include a community ping pong tournament, a White Party with all-night happy hour for those dressed in white, and a Kids Day with free lessons, face painting and a kid-friendly drink and food menu.

MONDAY: SPINBLEDON Ping Pong Tournament

WHAT: Community ping pong tournament where teams of 3 are invited to compete for the SPINBLEDON Trophy. Interested players must abide by “tournament regulations” and dress entirely in white for the competition. Those seeking ping pong glory can enter by registering here and submitting a $50 entry fee. Spectators entrance is free.

FRIDAY: SPINBLEDON White Party

WHAT: The AstroTurf is set and the bar is stocked for the largest ping pong party around in celebration of the Wimbledon championship. Come out for SPIN’s weekly challenger night in your best tennis whites for the chance to claim glory over our professional players. Communal ping pong tables will be available for games plus happy hour deals will be available all night to those who dress in all white for the occasion. Entrance is free but RSVP’ing >here is recommended.

SATURDAY: SPINBLEDON Kids Day

WHAT: SPINBLEDON Kids Day is an afternoon of ping pong activities for the whole family. Families can take free instructional lessons from professional staff members at center court, line up for face painting, or snack on items from an exclusive menu designed with SPIN’s younger players in mind. The specialty menu features kid-friendly mocktails as well as Margherita pizzas, burger sliders & fries, and “hop pop” chicken nuggets. Entrance is free for kids under 12; kids 12 and older and adult tickets are $15 and can be purchased here.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
