ANC1A Public Safety Meeting Tonight to Address Recent Violence in Columbia Heights/Park View

“In response to the recent increase in gun violence in our community and the urgent need to get answers and find solutions, Advisory Neighborhood Commission 1A has organized a panel for tonight where we can get updates on the efforts being undertaken to restore safety to our community. The event is scheduled for tonight (5/29) beginning at 7 pm. It will be held in the gymnasium of the Harriet Tubman Elementary School.

The following organizations and guests have been invited:

• 100 Black Men of America
• The Office of Neighborhood Safety & Engagement
• Collaborative Solutions for Communities
• Ward 1 Councilmember Brianne Nadeau
• Cynthia Turcios from the Mayor’s Office of Community Relations
• Paul Jones, President of The Columbia Heights Village Tenants Association
• Representatives from the Third & Fourth Districts of the Metropolitan Police Department

Understanding that this may be short notice for many, I also want to share information on additional upcoming events where neighbors can participate to address public safety and gun violence in our community.

ANC1A Public Safety Committee Meeting

This meeting is scheduled for June 5th, beginning at 7 pm. and located in the District Bridges offices at 3400 11th Street, NW, Suite 200.

Featured speakers at this meeting will be local non-profits working on public safety, including — La Clinica, Thrive DC, Collaborative Solutions, and the Salvation Army

March to End Gun Violence in Park View

Members of the Park View community have organized an annual march to end gun violence and remembrance of those lost to gun violence in the neighborhood — most recently 16 year old Breon (BJ) Austin who lost his life on April 19th. The event begins at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 8th, at the Park View Recreation Center. Participants are encouraged to wear orange.
