MPD Update on Recent Gun Violence in Columbia Heights

From MPD:

“The Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating the events of the past week and weekend, and is trying to determine if there is any relationship between any of these crimes. It should be noted that several of the crimes actually occurred indoors, and not out on the street.

Insofar as Friday afternoon’s shooting is concerned, suspects have been developed and warrants are being issued for three individuals. The shooting Sunday at about 1:40 a.m. actually occurred inside a multi-story apartment building, inside one of the units. Additionally, we are attempting to determine if the Sunday morning shooting in the 2800 block of 14th Street was related to any of the previous events, however, the complainant in that case is not cooperating with detectives.

In response to this violence, the Third District has deployed extra resources to the area, to include dedicated patrol personnel, members of the Crime Suppression Team and Bike Tactical Units, and the Department’s Intelligence Branch, in an attempt to determine the source of the conflict(s). The city has also brought other resources to bear, to include community partner agencies whose mission it is to seek out the source of the conflict and attempt to resolve or mitigate it.

If anyone has information, or video that might be relevant to any of these cases, we ask that you please contact the Department’s Command Information Center at 202-727-9099, so that we can interview you or obtain any relevant video you can make available.

We thank you in advance for your cooperation, and please know that we are working hard to root out the perpetrators of these crimes to make our community safer.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
