Bluestone Lane Coffee also coming the new building, The Liz, in Logan

rendering 14th and R Street, NW

Following news of the one coming to 1515 Rhode Island Ave, NW at The Darcy hotel, comes word of one more from a press release:

“Development partners Fivesquares Development and Whitman-Walker Health System today announced that Bluestone Lane Café will join 14t h Street’s newest mix-used development at Liz. The Australian-inspired, laid-back café will feature healthy breakfast, lunch, brunch, and evening offerings in a beautifully designed space that boasts indoor and outdoor seating. Bluestone Lane will neighbor global prestige omni-retailer Sephora as well as the new Whitman-Walker Cultural Center on the ground floor of the development. The 14th Street café will be Bluestone Lane’s sixth and largest location in the D.C. region. Liz and Bluestone Lane will open summer 2019.

Designed by FHA Architects and interiors by Julia Sullivan, the new café will feature a unique design that sets it apart from any other Bluestone Lane location. Soft pastel tones will be seen in the custom tiles that envelop the bar, while greenery and feature hanging pendants ornament the space. Bright marble tabletops will be paired with light timber furnishings, creating an elegant setting for an elevated brunch experience. The new 2,270 square foot space boasts expansive indoor seating and a striking outdoor terrace.

At full build out, Liz will be comprised of:

78 apartment residences across four floors

60,000 square feet of office space across two floors – including the home of Whitman-Walker’s administrative offices, research team and community health programming

20,000 square feet of ground-floor retail — including Bluestone Lane, Sephora, and the Whitman-Walker Cultural Center, which will be a space devoted to the LGBTQ community and to fostering dialogue about intersectionality through programming, conversations and the arts.

As part of the adaptive reuse development, two historical structures, the former Elizabeth Taylor Medical Center building and the Belmont Garage are being preserved within the new seven-story multi-use building. Liz is designed by acclaimed Selldorf Architects, (their first in Washington, D.C.) best known for award winning cultural venues, galleries, and museums around the world.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
