“On 5/9/2019, at approximately 11:20 PM, members of the Fifth District were patrolling in the Summer Crime Initiative Area and conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 1000 block of 17th Street, NE. During that stop, the officers obtained consent from the adult male driver of the vehicle to conduct a search of the vehicle. During that search, the officers located a loaded .380 caliber handgun which was concealed in the glove compartment. The adult male was then placed under arrest for possession of the illegal firearm. Great job, Officers Salavatov and Nguyen!”

and

“This morning at approximately 0725 hours, 2D members received a call for service for disorderly behavior in the 1900 block of Connecticut Avenue, NW. Once our officers arrived, they interviewed the subjects who were described as trespassing onto private property by the 911 callers. During their initial investigation, 2D officers were paying careful attention and later recovered two handguns from the scene. Additionally, they arrested two suspects, one of whom fled on foot from the officers.

Please join me in commending our officers and making specific note of the following:

1) The 911 call came from a concerned citizen who took the time to observe the behavior and report it.

2) No call for service is routine for MPD members.

3) Illegal handguns are a serious challenge that our MPD officers are tackling with dedication.”
