Your Afternoon Animal Fix – AdoPtville

If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share for the regular fix please send an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. AdoPtville is run by two volunteers who compile these pets weekly from local shelters.

Elroy’s two most favorite things in the whole world are warm radiators and warm laps to snuggle in. He is the perfect cat roommate – he already knows all the things you’re hoping your new cat will know: how to use a litter box, how to use a scratching post instead of a couch, and how to curl up perfectly in your lap when you need some love!

Elroy is an easy-going kind of guy – perfectly happy to hang out in his bed in the corner (next to the radiator) and watch the world go by without asking for much in return (except a warm radiator). Elroy lived in the same house with the same family for 13 of his 14 years, so understandably he’s a little shy around new people and it does take him a little extra time to get used to a new home. If you have a quiet corner in the sun (or next to the radiator) that’s just longing for a cat, Elroy is ready to home-sweet-home his way over as soon as you’re ready to pick him up.

As an added bonus, if you’re over 50, his adoption fee is waived as part of the Boomer’s Buddies program. Standard HRA adoption procedures apply. Please email Rodica at [email protected] if you’d like to meet Elroy!

Xena is a 10-year-old sweetheart known for her gentle demeanor and polite manners. Nothing seems to rattle her; she’s quiet, calm and observant. She’s also affectionate yet independent; she’ll snuggle and give kisses (usually after getting her belly rubbed or right before she takes a nap) but won’t follow you to the bathroom. Xena enjoys slow walks, playing with her toys, a good car ride, finding sticks to chew, and people-watching.

When she’s home alone she’s content to hang out in her crate on her super fluffy dog bed.  At 84.2 pounds, Xena was definitely on the chunky side. She’s making visible progress shedding pounds and getting stronger simply by cutting out treats and being a bit more active. She’s been an enthusiastic participant in this process and would probably enjoy going home with someone who will continue to support her healthy lifestyle. However, more than anything else Xena wants to go home with someone who will love her for the rest of her life.

If you’d like more information, please contact HRA or email Xena’s foster mom at: [email protected]

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
