From a press release:

“Two brand new culinary concepts, Cherry and Corner Office, are slated to open in W Washington DC, both helmed by esteemed local chef William Morris as Chef de Cuisine. The cuisine at Cherry, with an open-fire kitchen, will center around the kitchen’s new custom-built Grillworks hearth and wood burning ovens. Corner Office will boast wood-fired pizzas and 38 rotating taps of craft beer, encouraging sharing in its indoor space and year-round beer garden.

With a passion for nature and its offerings, Chef Morris draws inspiration from the earth’s bounty, emphasizing simple from-scratch cooking and accessible food that stands for itself. Chef Morris’ 25-year career has afforded him the opportunity to work alongside some of the finest chefs in the world, including Michelin-starred chefs Robert Wiedmaier and Michael Mina, and in some of the area’s most prominent and famous kitchens, most recently leading the culinary team at Vermillion in Alexandria. At Cherry and Corner Office, Chef Morris will utilize a specially selected blend of cherry wood for his honest, straightforward smoke and flame cooking, igniting the senses.

“I’m thrilled to be bringing these two new restaurant concepts to life, and to share my love of using simple elements, such as fire, to create one-of-a-kind dishes,” said Morris. “I’m drawing inspiration from places I’ve worked and traveled, combined with my love of nature and simple cooking, to create dining experiences that will have guests coming back time and time again.”

The bar at Cherry will feature wine and local beers on tap as well as cocktails curated by world-renowned mixologist, Cocktail Professor. All cocktails are crafted with spirits sourced from within 50 miles of Washington, DC. Corner Office will boast a continuously rotating menu of 38 beers on tap, ranging from local selections to international classics. All servers and managers have received comprehensive beer training from Master Cicerone Neil Witte. The beverage program is overseen by Garth Welsh, Certified Cicerone and Director of Beverage & Food for W Washington DC.

Both restaurant concepts are slated to open in late Spring. More information:

Cherry

Cherry, with its custom-built Grillworks cast iron hearth and twin wood burning ovens, celebrates the art of smoke and fire-grilled food.

Named for the utilization of a specially selected blend of cherry wood used in the ovens and restaurant decór accents, Cherry’s true inspiration comes from Chef William Morris’ approach to cooking – honest, straightforward, and communal. The restaurant’s hardwood blend of cherry wood and grapevines utilizes the very basic elements of embers and ash to showcase a unique farm to fire approach to primal American cuisine, with elements of each dish touching the flames in some way. In addition to Cherry’s everyday offerings, guests will also have the option to indulge in large party feasts: meals of Chef’s choice that will range from suckling pig to specialty cuts of beef, and will require 48 hours’ notice to prepare.

Cherry’s beverage program centers around 24 offerings on tap, featuring world class wines, innovative cocktails curated by Cocktail Professor, and a wide array of beers and spirits born and bred within 50 miles of DC.

The three-meal, 60-seat restaurant will offer a full-service a la carte menu, business lunch, pre-theatre menu and a Sunday brunch.

Corner Office

Few things exemplify life’s simple pleasures more than beer and pizza. On the corner of 15th and Pennsylvania Avenue, Corner Office is the city’s newest destination for artisan wood-fired pizzas and a selection of the best craft beer from small and independent brewers in the U.S. and beyond. The food offerings center around simple, authentic wood-fired pizzas, local cheese and charcuterie, and seasonal salads.

With 38 rotating taps and a Master Cicerone-trained staff, Corner Office will offer some of the most unique craft beers in the city, ranging from light lagers and IPAs to intense imperial stouts and barley wines. Murals created by local artists Gaia, Mike Tanoory and Aniekan Udofia will be a feature of Corner Office, as will bocce courts in the beer garden during the warmer months and a curling rink in the winter.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
