Pedestrian Hit by Car in LeDroit Park 1:45am, Possibly Intentional Hit and Run

“The Third District is currently investigating a hit and run accident involving a pedestrian at 4th and T streets NW. The pedestrian has been transported to an area hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries. The striking vehicle is described as a dark suv that was last scene northbound on 4th Street.

Motorists and pedestrians can expect road closures in the area as we investigate.

“Sadly, this does not at all appear to be an accident.

It looked like an intentional hit and run following an early morning argument between a few individuals in front of the LeDroit market. One individual began to leave the scene on foot and the driver involved in the argument swerved to strike him as he sped away up 4th.

From our camera footage, the vehicle appeared to be a recent model dark gray or black Ford Escape and the altercation took place around 1:45 AM. The car and other individuals came from the east walking west on T and it sounded like something happened that direction that started the altercation. If you have street facing cameras anywhere around the circle or west on T, please provide them to MPD as soon as possible. We provided all our footage this morning to officers on the scene.”
