She Loves Me, flower shop on Upshur is opening in former Philip’s Shoe Repair space – Party Saturday!

Ed. Note: From the Lemon Collective’s Holley Simmons.  From Holley:

She Loves Me is a flower and gift shop that caters to those who appreciate beauty and want to learn more about the world around them. We’ll have a daily selection of fresh-cut flowers, available by the stem and in pre-made bouquets, as well as plants. Upstairs we’ll have classes of all sorts, including flower arranging, terrariums, flower crowns and more.

We have a selection of botanical-based products, including candles and skincare. We also serve as a gallery space for local artists, and with the exception of their one-of-a-kind artworks no product in the shop is over $150.

We’ll also do weddings, special events, and classes on-site.
A little bit more about my background:

I began teaching terrarium classes on my dining room table five years ago while simultaneously working as a food reporter for The Washington Post Express.

Once classes started getting larger and larger (and my roommate was growing tired of all the dirt) I left the Post and co-founded a shared makers’ space in DC called The Lemon Collective (www.wearethelemoncollective.com) where I taught plant classes and invited other area makers to share their skills.

Since teaching and selling terrariums, I’ve also began to offer floral design services. She Loves Me will serve as the base for my flower work and be a retail shop where I can share my passion with everyone else.

10 percent off all flower subscriptions until Feb. 10″

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
