“Resources for Contractors during Shut Down?”

Photo by PoPville flickr user District Shots

“Dear PoPville,

My husband was laid off this morning as a result of the shut down. He is not a federal employee and does not have a federal ID as many contractors have. Unfortunately his private company relies on federal contracts (land management and tree maintenance) and is unable to continue work on those contracts due to the shutdown. As a result they laid off about 10% of their staff this morning and told the remaining staff to expect additional layoffs in the coming weeks if this shut down does not end.

In looking for resources that may be of assistance to us, I have discovered that most of the available resources (community kitchens, financial assistance etc.) require a federal ID. Do you know how others that are furloughed/laid off as a result of the shut down but don’t have a federal ID are accessing these resources?”

Another reader asks:

“I was wondering since you’ve had coverage of the furlough whether you have suggestions on what charities are providing direct aid (food banks, meals, clothing, etc.) to Federal workers and contractors. I’ve been both, and I feel sympathy for the individuals and families suffering through the shutdown.”

And not for contractors but for Feds:

For many remote workers, a messy home is distracting.

You’re getting pulled into meetings, and your unread emails keep ticking up. But you can’t focus because pet hair tumbleweeds keep floating across the floor, your desk has a fine layer of dust and you keep your video off in meetings so no one sees the chaos behind you.

It’s no secret a dirty home is distracting and even adds stress to your life. And who has the energy to clean after work? That’s why it’s smart to enlist the help of professionals, like Well-Paid Maids.
