Restaurants opened, restaurants closed. Dogs shit and people did not always pick up. People continued to ride bikes and rent e-scooters. And cars. People yelled at each other. And helped each other. People got speeding tickets. And parking tickets. And mail, sometimes. Wheels were stolen. Metro continued being metro. Packages were received. Packages were stolen. People broke the law. Sometimes horrifically. People continued to donate and do good. Sometimes phenomenally. The Caps brought it home. The Nats did not. Blocks bloomed. Blocks wilted. Fires blazed. Our responders responded. Our bravest put them out. The waterfronts soared. Rats rose up but hawks flew and dined very well. The White Whale was spotted everywhere.
Wild turkeys too.
Pets were adopted. We voted. We protested. We projected. We paid taxes. We paid a lot for houses and rent. We lost loved ones. Babies were born. We wept. We rejoiced. We tore down. We built new. We popped up. And back. The Feds shutdown. They opened. They shutdown again. And a third time. It rained A LOT. We crossed the 700,000 population mark. We remained disenfranchised. We persevered. We fell down. We got back up. We danced. We went to concerts. We smoked the sensimilla legally. We drank D.C. brews and spirits. We ate very well. We laughed. We kvetched. We kvelled. Sometimes there was rhyme, sometimes reason. Sometimes not. One thing is for sure, come hell or high water, we will do it all again in 2019.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
