“Will I get any traction in the appeals process even if our sales price is more than the tax assessment?”

“Dear PoPville,

We bought a home earlier this year. While doing some other online digging I noticed our proposed 2019 assessment is an increase of $110,000 over the 2018 value! We have not done any major improvements other than upgrading the electrical panel.

While the tax assessment is still lower than the actual sales price, it’s much much higher than any of our neighbors who essentially have identical homes (some even have slightly larger pieces of property). The most recent sale of one of these nearly identical homes was in 2017 and before that it dates back to 2012 and their 2019 proposed assessments are all more than $200,000 less than ours.

Will I get any traction in the appeals process even if our sales price is more than the tax assessment? Any tips on taking on an appeal?”
