“World’s Best Cocktail Bar” popping up at The Gibson November 26 and 27

2009 14th Street, NW

From a press release:

“Dandelyan, voted #1 World’s Best Cocktail Bar at both the prestigious Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards and World’s 50 Best Bars Awards is now breaking new grounds with a two-day long pop-up in Washington D.C. this fall. The pop-up will take place at the city’s pioneering speakeasy, The Gibson, on November 26 and 27, just in time for the tenth anniversary of the local favorite bar.

Dandelyan recently announced that after four successful years, it will be closing in January to reinvent itself within the same space at the Mondrian London Sea Containers Hotel.

“Celebrating and sharing the cocktail culture is something we love to do. In fact, the ‘World Botany Series’ was centered on collaborating and merging concepts and by bringing bars from around the world to work with us at Dandelyan,” said acclaimed mixologist, Ryan Chetiyawardana, also known as Mr. Lyan. “We’ve also enjoyed travelling to new and interesting places to explore how we can collaborate with friends in their venues, and this new venture is very much about continuing in that tradition.”

To recreate the Dandelyan experience, the pop-up will include Mr. Lyan’s imaginative cocktails, with a menu designed around a “Modern Life of Plants” concept that aims to explore industrialization and large-scale food systems. It’s divided into three sections: Mint, Grape and Hops, with ingredients ranging from moss vermouth to cream of snails.

“We’re really excited to work with The Gibson, and we are looking forward to collaborating with the team on the ground in D.C. to bring to life a new Lyan adventure centered on my love of global flavors and local magic. It will be a marriage of my previous experience and excitement around the city, its culture and its people. To me, food and drink is a wonderful discovery, and Washington, D.C. and its surroundings have so much to offer that I’m really looking forward to exploring,” added Chetiyawardana.

The pop-up bar will be open from 8pm to 12:30 AM to the general public on a “first come first served” basis.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
