From MPD:

“It is with a heavy heart that I have to tell you that we have had another shooting in the Southwest area. Last night, at approximately 2100 hours my team heard (and you all let us know) that there were several gunshots coming from the area. We found over 25 shell casings in the west alley in the 1300 block of Half Street Southwest (the alley just south of the unit block of N Street SW). About an hour after the shooting, we had a victim arrive via private vehicle to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to his posterior.

If you have any information about this offense, please let us know. I am the Sector 3 Captain and responsible for this area. I can be reached at [email protected] or 202-731-0431. If you or your neighbors observe any suspicious activity or hear any gunshots in the future, please let me know. I work nights, so I am usually up all night, but feel free to email/text/call me with your concerns anytime.

We are working hard to eradicate this spat of violence that has continued to plague our community, and I would love to hear your thoughts on how we are doing and how we could be doing better. Thank you all for the help and support you give us each and every day as we continue to work towards a safer community.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
