“will be featuring a Chinese-Korean x Slim Jim inspired menu for the DC area CHIKO”

423 8th Street, SE

Ed. Note: I un-ironically love this.

From an email:

“Chefs Scott Drewno & Danny Lee, and their restaurant CHIKO are partnering with Slim Jim and special guest Chefs Gerald Addison and Chris Morgan, to deliver a one-of-a-kind pop up experience October 26.

Scott & Danny alongside Maydan will be featuring a Chinese-Korean x Slim Jim inspired menu for the DC area CHIKO, in a wildly popular event series called “CHIKO After Dark.”

Scott’s love for Slim Jim was covered in an article written by Bloomberg last June. The Slim Jim team saw this as an opportunity to work with one of the country’s best culinary teams (and palates) to encourage foodies everywhere to think about Slim Jim less as a “guilty pleasure” and more as pleasurable, fun food…PERIOD.

“We can’t wait to see the Slim Jim-inspired dishes that Scott and Danny create.

Slim Jim fans are always seeking the bold and spicy side of life and we’re sure they’ll find it in this one-of-a-kind menu.” -Spencer Fivelson, Slim Jim Senior Brand Director

All specials priced a modest $8.

The Special Guests will be Gerald Addison and Chris Morgan the Co-Executive Chefs of the award-winning restaurants Compass Rose and Maydan. Both of which are based in Washington, DC. Since its opening, RAMMY award-winner, Compass Rose, has been named on every best restaurant list in D.C. and has received national recognition from esteemed news outlets including The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Food & Wine, Bon Appetit, etc. Compass Rose’s sister restaurant and James Beard Semifinalist, Maydan, has received critical acclaim from local, regional, and national press outlets, including being named No. 2 Best New Restaurant in America” by Bon Appetit,”Top 10 Best New Restaurant” by Food & Wine, a “Best New Restaurant in America” by G.Q Magazine, one of Eater’s “18 Best New Restaurants in America”, and more.

When Bloomberg Asked:
“You’re on a road trip, hungry, and you have to gas up. What snacks do you get?”
Scott Drewno Answered:
“Slim Jim, beef jerky, 100 percent….” Read Article

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
