5:45pm Shooting in Kingman Park, 2 Guns Recovered; Double Shooting in Columbia Heights; Shots Fired on U Street, Gun Recovered, Arrest Made

From MPD:

“On Friday, October 5th, 2018, at approximately 5:45 PM, Fifth District Officers received a call for the sound of gunshots near 15th and D Streets, NE. Officers responded to the location and located an adult male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Medical assistance was requested, and the victim was subsequently transported to an area hospital in critical condition. Two (2) individuals have been detained in reference to this shooting, and two (2) firearms have been recovered.

From MPD around 3am:

“The Third District Detective’s Office is currently investigating a shooting that occurred in the 1300 block of Columbia Road, NW. Third District patrol units responded to the area to investigate the sound of gunshots. Officers found two victims, both suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both victims were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

We ask if anyone witnessed the shooting or would like to share information that could assist us to please call our Command Information Center at 202-727-9099 or text a tip to 50411.”

From MPD at 6am:

“This morning near the 900 block of U Street, NW a MPD officer witnessed an individual shoot a firearm at other individuals. That MPD officer radioed for assistance and units assisted with apprehending the individual a very short time after. A firearm was recovered from the individual’s person. The individual is an adult and was arrested. The firearm recovery was a great example of officers being vigilant and working together to make the streets safer within the District of Columbia.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
