From a press release:

“Due to the threat of inclement weather posed by Hurricane Florence and its remnants and the Declaration of a State of Emergency in the District of Columbia by Mayor Muriel Bowser, the 2018 H Street Festival will be postponed until Saturday, Oct. 13. It will occur from noon – 7 p.m. that day from the 400 to 1400 block of H Street NE.

“We know how excited the entire District gets for the annual H Street Festival and are disappointed to have to postpone this year’s festivities. However, the danger posed by Hurricane Florence to our area this weekend cannot be discounted. The safety of the public and of festival participants is our utmost priority. We hope that everyone will join us for the rescheduled H Street Festival on Oct. 13. This year’s festival is going to be the best one ever!” – Anwar Saleem, Executive Director of H Street Main Street, which organizes the annual festival

From DC VegFest:

“While the annual DC VegFest is a rain or shine event, Compassion Over Killing regretfully must cancel this year’s event as the Mayor’s Office of the DC Government has just declared a state of emergency in response to the weather forecast related to Hurricane Florence.

This is the first time our 10-year history of hosting this free event that we’ve had to cancel due to weather, though it has rained twice before.

The DC VegFest, attended by more than 20,000 people, has always been hosted outdoors with the risk of cancellation due to weather.

“Compassion Over Killing is sad to announce that the 2018 DC VegFest has been cancelled in the face of Hurricane Florence, and we appreciate all of the participation and interest our event has received this year,” said Erica Meier, Executive Director of Compassion Over Killing . “We know that the DC community will join us once again when our event returns next year.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
