CELEBRATE PETWORTH is Saturday, this year also includes the TASTE OF PETWORTH!!

800 block of Upshur Street, NW

From a press release:

“Petworth residents love where they live, gathering for informal neighborhood socials, chatting with neighbors from porch to porch and patronizing local businesses and events that have become a part of the fabric of the community. Continuing this heritage, the 800 Block of Upshur Street NW will come alive again on Saturday, September 8th from 11am to 5pm with CELEBRATE PETWORTH, an annual celebration of community featuring music, food, vendors and more. In its fifth year, the festival also will introduce TASTE OF PETWORTH, where attendees can purchase tickets and exchange them for delectable dishes from a variety of Petworth-area restaurants.

Over the past several years, Petworth has become locally and nationally recognized for its vibrant food scene that appeals to a range of budgets and tastes. From choripan to tikka masala, festival-goers can purchase tickets for $2 each at the event and use them to sample bites from several local establishments (dishes will be priced from one to six tickets). TASTE OF PETWORTH will feature:
“Celebrate Petworth was conceived and created to bring residents together, and food is central to any community as a way to communicate and celebrate,” noted Tom Pipkin, Co-Founder of the Petworth Alliance. “We want to thank our participating local restaurants for recognizing this and joining us in this exciting new addition to the festival lineup!”
Guests who patronize TASTE OF PETWORTH also will receive 15% off at any participating restaurant on a future visit when they present their menu from the festival (some restrictions apply). For more information and updates, please visit celebratepetworth.org/tasteofpetworth.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
