El Sapo, Cuban Social Club, coming soon to Silver Spring

8455 Fenton Street via El Sapo

Well this sounds pretty great:

“I’m so happy to introduce EL SAPO, Cuban Social Club – a hip, festive, forward-thinking Cuban restaurant, and the first of its kind in the D.C. metro area. It’s been a long dream of mine to represent and promote my culture through my craft, and here it is. Bright, open, and brimming with energy, EL SAPO’s whole storefront lifts to let the breeze in. The fresh mojitos, upbeat music and bold island food really do require “no filter”. Our menu is rooted in tradition and unmistakably Cuban; full of intense flavors, colors and aromas. About half of the dishes are what I ate growing up at home or on the streets of La Habana, while the other half tell the story of my journey as a cook.

If the heart of EL SAPO is the kitchen, its soul is our signature open-air double bar, spilling out into a spacious private patio, which is perfect for parties and private events. The outdoor space continues around the corner into a sidewalk café where you can sip on cortaditos throughout the day and into Havana Nights with cocktails, aged rums and dinner al fresco. And in true Cuban form, we celebrate on the weekends with “Mañanas in the Mojito Garden”; our daytime fiesta featuring live DJs and musicians, half-price mojitos, Cuban street food and more.

So bring your friends and join me in Downtown Silver Spring, and together we’ll bring EL SAPO, Cuban Social Club to life.

¡¡¡Aché!!!

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
