“I don’t think he’s going to win a lot of votes if he physically assaults registered voters on the streets.”

“Dear PoPville,

My boyfriend and I were walking down 14th street NW (I believe we were between T and S streets) Friday morning when we walked past a man who asked us if we were registered DC voters. After mumbling “yes” but continuing to walk past him, he told us he was running for DC mayor. We continued walking, and he asked us if we “were really walking away from him.” My boyfriend politely said “yes”, which immediately made the man’s temperament switch to highly aggressive.

He quickly ran up to my boyfriend and got in his face and his body language was physically threatening, asking if he said that we were walking away from him. My boyfriend remained calm and didn’t engage with him, but the “mayoral candidate” aggressively shoved my boyfriend into the wall/nearest storefront. He looked like he might continue to attack my boyfriend but luckily he turned and walked away.

After recounting this to a friend this morning, he thought this guy sounded familiar and sent me this article. It was definitely that man. I wanted to write in to make other folks aware and to try to engage with him as little as possible if he approaches. I don’t think he’s going to win a lot of votes if he physically assaults registered voters on the streets. We didn’t call the police but I’m concerned that he could assault someone to the point of truly getting hurt.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
